What is a GRATUITY (مكافأة)?

Gratuity (مكافأة) (convention) is a sum of money that an employer is required to pay to an employee upon termination of the relationship in the UAE and Dubai. According to the UAE Labour Law, an employer is required to pay gratuity to its employees after one year of service. The payment depends on the service regulations, reasons the employee left the job and type of service contract.

Gratuity pay is only for expats in UAE. UAE nationals are not entitled to a gratuity as they receive mandatory National Pension Plans that expatriates do not qualify for.
